A Study of urban trees from manicured areas, on the grounds around The Carriage House.
Created though a system of measurement and quantification, the absurd structuring of these organic forms has removed all notions and connotations of the trees they are drawn from. They achieve little to reveal their subject matter; instead, acting as blue prints, they map out a totem, and become more of a manifestation of a futile ideal.
They strive to claim an identity and sense of place, patterns and rhythms seem to emerge, then breakdown. Systems of governing loose focus. The three tree sketches, against the chaos of drips, are merely present, but barely there.
These works reveal our desire for order and understanding within our surroundings, but also the uncontrollable disorder to which we cannot tame.
